High power FM pirate broadcasting to the Netherlands silenced

This weekend, the pirate radio station Koning, Keizer, Admiraal has been broadcasting a high power FM signal into the Netherlands on 97.0 MHz. The broadcasts were coming from a 100 metre mast just over the border in Gildehaus, Germany, with a power of 11 kW, and the intention was to broadcast continuously for the whole weekend. However, the station's Website reports that it was taken off the air at 1355 UTC today, after 15 German police cars and some Dutch police arrived at the transmitter site.

Radio Caroline now available at 19.2 degrees East

UK satellite broadcaster Radio Caroline is now available on the Astra 2C satellite at 19.2 degrees East in addition to the existing slot on the Eurobird at 28.2 East. A statement on the station's Website reads:Radio Caroline is pleased to announce that after lengthy discussions with our friends at Technisat Germany, Radio Caroline is now test broadcasting a full time service on Astra 2C at 19.2degrees. The tuning details at this time are; Frequency 10832 Horizontal, SR22000, FEC 2/3 ***SID 61966*** This is the stated FEC but we are getting reception at FEC 4/5. The new service is provided by Technisat and Caroline is the first of a selection of specialist radio stations that will ultimately become available as a package. Technisat tell us that the signal will be maintained through Christmas and the New Year but that the signal may be down at times from mid January 2005, while additional equipment is installed. Further details will follow shortly. The signal is currently free to air, but the phrase "ultimately become available as a package" suggests that it may be encrypted for subscribers at some future date.
