Big L is back on 1395 kHz !!
September 19th, 2006, 15:10 UTC by Andy

After over a year off the air, UK-based commercial broadcaster Big L has started testing again on its mediumwave frequency 1395 kHz from Trintelhaven in the Netherlands. The signal is very strong here in the Hilversum area. Presenter David Hamilton announced at 1506 UTC that this is “just a test transmission” and that “we hope the signal is going to get a lot stronger throughout the day.”

The listener forum on Big L’s website contains some new pictures of the Trintelhaven transmitter site taken yesterday by Dutch forum member Peter Vrakking. He was the person who took the photo that we published in July showing an empty site. Yesterday’s picture showed that several large crates had arrived. Obviously these contained the transmitter and generator.

Another Dutch listener, Peter Tim, is visiting the site today for a photoshoot, and says that the pictures will be online at www.Beachradio.nl before midnight (2200 UTC) this evening.

Taken together with the news from Quality Radio about an environmental permit for Pampushaven, it looks as if there’s going to be a resurgence of activity on mediumwave from the Netherlands.
