The Old Wireless-a radio memory by the radio informer
Hello readers-to start we all love tuning around our wireless's and hearing stations from a far while those who are not hobbiests to radio tend to stick with their local out put not knowing that you can tune in to a vast majority of stations from out of the country you live in.
Some of my memory well i'm only 26 yrs of age but still have memories of listening to radio netherlands media network. This was a half hour programme about radio and communications with a hint of the latest technology. I use to go to my bedroom get my tape recorder out and enjoy listening on 1512 khz mw in the uk(europe) hile the rest of my family sit around the tv downstairs. What i liked was recording the jingles they use to air and such names/presenters such as Jonathan marks and dearna johnson, bob tamoski, arthur cushion, mike bird. The show started just a bit past 10pm uk time on thursday evening . Also on my radio listening was listening to the dutch commercial station radio veronica it aired on 828khz in the mid 90's it went away to exclusive fm distribution but i still had arrow classic rock on that frequency till earl y this year it went to 675 khz mw so radio 10 gold went to 1395 but then left and went to 1008khz mw. I didn't have shortwave radio in the 90,s not untill year 2000 soright at the top of my radio dial just before 7pm uk time i would hear a jingle that i liked and it turned out to be voa-voice of america then after the jingles africa tonight would come on. I also remember radio luxembourg on 1440 khz mw when that went rtl radio played oldies on that frequency. My first portable shortwave receiver was an analogue roberts r871 whiles helping out with the cooking i would sit the receiver on the kitchen window sil tune it to around 6190 and listen to advice line wih roy masters. Then i got liking the channel africa theme tune it would start up just before 5pm/6pm/7pm uk time on 17860khz sw. Next i got in to pirate radio and found lots of these on shortwave like wnkr, jolly roger, lazer hot hits ,voice of the netherlands etc but i remember one evening tuning into around 3900-3990 and hearing something called "oscar the engineer" now i didn,t know if it was the name of a presenter of pirate stion let me know if you know what it is. The journey still continues today on my sony icf-sw 7600gr receiver and this hobbie of mine is now o website this one the one your reading now. over and out. |
