To continue receiving the best global news and international cultural programmes from WRN after this date, a WorldSpace Satellite Radio Gold subscription will be neede at a costs of USD9.99 per month. "The model for subscription radio is establishing itself", says WRN in a newsletter, which is stating American commercial broadcasters Sirius Satellite Radio and XM Radio as well as the AOL Radio player and mp3 web sites as examples to follow. "We understand", the WRN newsletter adds, "that for some listeners the introduction of subscription will be unwelcome." End Of The Line RVI'S Radio World
credit: http://www.rvi.be A new news site available at http://www.rvinews.be At the weekend I attended the SWL Winterfest in Kulpsville, Pennsylvania so this is obviously a recording that is several days old. Normally at this time of the year I would begin Radio World with a presentation of our new programme schedule, the one for the summer time. I don't have to do this this time because we will go off the air in two weeks. But not altogether: some sound in English will survive in the shape of a three or four-minute news bulletin, broadcast 4 times a day, at 0700, 1100, 1800 and 2200 UTC. Unfortunately not on shortwave, only on mediumwave, satellite and internet. Mediumwave is as before, 1512 kHz from Wolvertem near Brussels. For the rest, all that remains on shortwave from RVi is a daily magazine "Vlaanderen Vandaag" (Flanders Today) which will be broadcast four times a day to Europe. To south east Europe on 13685 kHz from 0600-0700 and 1700-1800 UTC, both transmissions from Moscow; also to south west Europe, on 9590 kHz from 0700-0800 and 1800-1900 UTC, both times from Skelton, England. |
