Email from frederic jodry Scott, the latest news from my neck of the woods, is that the radio station I listen + contribute to most, WBCQ, is undergoing a pretty big change in programs and schedules, soon. As "anyone" could predict, One of the religious programmers decided that it`s overnight schedule on 5110 Kc was too local, and dumped it for a smaller schedule on 7415Kc. It`s such a chronic problem that so many religious authorities think in too much of a governmental way and get worthlessly disgusted if their audience and tasks are close to home. At the same time but unrelated, I and some friends are trying to introduce new shows to the 5110Kc transmitter at dawn, but short money means some delays. It might happen on 7415 Kc, a more expensive transmitter. Check the WBCQ web twice a week, in two weeks and follow the schedules and comments. Listener comments to: e d u c a t i o n a l b r o a d c a s t i n g @ h o t m a i l . c o m , amongst other places. Other stations: WNYC (usually AM) has "Folksong Festival" by, Oscar Brand, and there`s Danny Stiles, too; and WFUV has "Big Broadcast" by, Rich Conaty. Here is a general look at some of the only worthwhile shows on Radio, any on TV? - - . . . . . . - - - - . . - - Fred |
Fifty years of transmitting at BBC Woofferton 1943 - 1993

It is probably the most extensive history of a short wave station that is presently available. Jeff Cant started it in 1990 at the request of BBC Transmission management and an earlier version was issued at the time of the station's 50th anniversary in 1993. In his retirement, Jeff has developed it much further (including 90 pictures) and I am delighted to say that he has contributed it for publication on this web site. It is a 75 page PDF document in which Jeff weaves technical, personal and organisational issues together and paints a very interesting picture of life at the station.
