Transmitter site found for Radio Seagull / Waddenzee
credit: http://medianetwork.blogspot.com
Dutch commercial broadcaster Pan European Radio, based in Harlingen, has at last found a suitable location for its 1 kW mediumwave transmitter that will carry the programmes of Radio Seagull and the tourist station Radio Waddenzee on 1602 kHz. A request for a construction permit has been submitted to the planners for a location at Finkum. Indications are that the request will be approved, as a local councillor says the site is justified from the point of view of landscaping and planning, the construction work would fall outside of environmental legislation, and there are no objections from immediate neighbours. It's hoped to get a quick decision, as the station is supposed to be on the air by 1 December in order not to forfeit its licence. # posted by Andy @ 10:20 UTC |

Spenser Closing Down 603AM Temporarily
credit: http://www.hard-core-dx.com
Radio operator Mike Spenser on Pirate Radio 603AM is giving up.Temporarily, at least.Spenser is closing his transmissions on medium wave 603 kHz, transmissions saidto be illegal by license owner Roy Sandgren. "I'm going to England for ten days to negotiate a great contract," Spenser says tothe local newspaper Ålandstidningen. If Spenser can resume his transmissions later on is doubtful. The local governmenton the Finnish island of Åland has ruled that Mr Sandgren's licens is suspended forthe next six months. That is not deterring Mike Spenser. "I have the right to lodge a protest."Local administrator Veronica Johansson sighs."If they would just calm down a little," she says to Ålandstidningen. hcdx news desk, 3 November 2004 Battle For Pirate Radio 603AM Heating UpRoy Sandgren, owner of Pirate Radio 603AM, broadcasting from the Finnish islandof Åland, wants the authorities to stop his own radio station.”I have asked the national Finnish communication commission to withdraw mylicens. I don’t want anybody to use the frequency,” Roy Sandgren says to thelocal newspaper Nya Åland.Sandgren’s move is a try to stop his American rival Mike Spenser, who is transmitting on 603 kHz while claiming that he has an agreement with Sandgren.Sandgren denies this. ”We never had any agreement; what we had was a cooperation.""Spenser don’t want any agreement, forcing me to pay all fees. That is why Istopped our cooperation in early September,” Sandgren says, adding that he isseeking new partners for his radio station.Spenser, however, have kept on transmitting on 603 kHz. The local police have shown little interest in intervening.”This should be solved by legal means in court, not by the police,” says policesuperintendent Olof Lindqvist. An official withdrawal of the licens might change this.”A continued transmission would, in that case, be in violation of the radio laws, which might force us to take actions. ”First, Lindqvist adds, the police want this information from the authorities, notfrom Sandgren. However, it may still be a matter of priority.”Breaking the radio laws is not particularly serious.”Mike Spenser do not wish to comment Sandgren’s new action, referring to the”delicate situation”.”All Sandgren wants is to destroy the radio station we have established inaccordance with the agreements we have,” Spenser says to the newspaper Nya Åland.
