DRM live at Le Radio! Conference in Paris, February 6-9 From February 6th through 9th, Le Radio! participants will have the opportunity to hear Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) broadcasts on mediumwave and shortwave on existing consumer and software receivers at the DRM stand in the Paris Expo. DRM`s European commercial launch will take place later this year. "France is a key market for DRM, and DRM is a key digital solution for AM in France," says Michel Penneroux of TDF, DRM`s Commercial Committee Chairman. "The French government is backing digital media - digital television broadcasts have just begun, and digital radio is next. On January 27, French Minister of Industry Patrick Devedjan stated that digital radio will take off in 2005. DRM will launch a new, French web site this spring to herald our approaching European commercial debut. DRM has built a strong coalition in France in preparation for the upcoming market launch." To be showcased at the DRM Stand at Le Radio! this year: - MAYAH`s DRM 2010 receiver, a 2nd generation receiver. It is a joint development by Coding Technologies, BBC R&D, and DRM Supporters MAYAH and AFG Engineering GmbH. - DRM Member BBC will display DRM transmissions from the UK to France on shortwave, including an audio-on-demand service. BBC will also demonstrate a data service that connects to the DRM 2010 via USB. - TDF will demonstrate live, local mediumwave transmissions, and will showcase a software receiver. - The Digital World Traveller from DRM Member Coding Technologies: It is a small, USB device that connects to a PC or a laptop without needing any additional power supply or battery. RadioAsia 2005 set to promote radio industry Radio industry experts and professionals from all over the region are expected to congregate at the first RadioAsia Conference 2005 to be held in conjunction with BroadcastAsia 2005, in Singapore from June 15-17, 2005. Jointly organised by the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU), AMIC and Singapore Exhibition Services Pte. Ltd., the event is the first of a series of annual conferences on radio in Asia. This unprecedented conference will focus on the impacts of emerging and converging radio communications strategies in the Asia-Pacific mediascape. Speakers and attendees will be drawn from across Asia, as well as US/European radio agencies and professionals active in the region. In addition to attending the conference sessions, delegates will gain access to networking sessions, specifically focusing on areas like research, technology, methods, education and alliances. Among the topics on radio to be dealt with at the conference include Public Service Radio, audience research, evolving radio content formats, radio regulation, community radio, radio advertising and journalism, digital radio as well as cross-media strategies. David Astley, Secretary-General of the ABU says, “We are confident that this new conference will be the catalyst for radio and will help to spawn exciting developments in radio in this part of the world; we are very pleased to be working with AMIC and SES and be part of this.” Radio industry practitioners and media professionals are invited to submit their papers for this conference by March 1, 2005.
