US Christian network on mediumwave in Romania

A US-funded Christian radio station is expanding its broadcasting network in Romania.

Radio Micul Samaritean (Little Samaritan) has begun to transmit on 1485 and 1584 kHz mediumwave,

in addition to FM and satellite distribution.
Bernd Trutenau in Lithuania first reported about the station on December 30.

Radio 555 now broadcasting live from Studio 22 in Hilversum

Hilversum has never seen anything like it - public and commercial broadcasters are working together today in Studio 22, a big TV studio just along the road from Radio Netherlands, producing Radio 555, a one-day special radio station raising money for the tsunami disaster fund.

A very high quality video stream is taking the scenes from the studio to Dutch people around the world, and there's an atmosphere of excitement as donations to the fund continue to break all previous records in a country where giving to charity has always been generous.

You can sample the action at www.radio555.nl. It's also available on shortwave. See item below for the schedule. From 0900-1100 UTC the programme was also relayed on 5955 kHz, the regular Dutch frequency of Radio Netherlands.

At 1200 UTC, after 7 hours on the air, Radio 555 announced that donations of more than 1 million euro had been pledged.

Thursday 6th January will be a very special day in Dutch broadcasting.

Ten national radio stations will carry the same programming from 0500-1930 Dutch time under the name Radio 555, to raise money for the Tsunami disaster relief fund.

555 is the giro number to which contributions can be sent. The news bulletins will be prepared jointly by journalists from the public and commercial broadcasters.

Regular updates will be broadcast on the progress of the fundraising. The radio programmes, which will come from studio 22 in Hilversum, will be co-presented in mostly two hour blocks by two presenters from different stations, as follows:
0500-0700 Robert Jensen [Yorin FM] and Rene Verkerk [Radio 10 Gold]*
0700-0900 Edwin Evers [Radio 538] and Rob van Someren [Radio Veronica]
0900-1100 Rob Stenders [Yorin FM] and Peter Holland [Radio 10 Gold]
1100-1300 Claudia de Breij [3FM] and Kas van Iersel [Radio Veronica]
1300-1500 Henk Westbroek [Yorin FM] and Roland Snoeijer [RTL FM
1500-1700 Wouter van der Goes [3FM] and Ruud de Wild [Radio 538]
1700-1930 Martijn Krabbé [Noordzee FM] and Edwin Evers [Radio 538]
